Another Ferrari Enzo has been involved in a serious accident, this time in the French city of Nice. The story of the crash was first reported in local newspaper Nice-Matin, which confirmed that the driver of the supercar was Russian born billionaire Suleyman Kerimov. The car, which was traveling at high speeds, skidded off the road and hit a tree before igniting. Both the driver and his passenger are said to be seriously injured. Kerimov is a political member of the Russian state of Duma and was listed as number 72 on Forbes’ World’s Richest People List. Kerimov, who built up his wealth in buying shares of Russian banks, oil companies and even his own airline at one point, has been under suspicion as his assets appear to have been financed by significant debts about which no public disclosure has been made. This adds to a growing list of Enzo crashes, with many occurring withing the past three months. The list includes the story of a fatal Enzo crash just last month in California, another involving an accident in Utah as well as a crash in South Korea detailed in this report from Bilfeber. However, the most infamous has got to be the drag race crash involving Swedish fraudster Stefan Eriksson. Update: Kerimov has been hospitalised in critical condition at Marseille’s major burns center. A female passenger in the car was also injured according police. Update #2: More details have emerged about the crash. Kerimov, who arrived in Nice on a private jet with his friend Tina Kondelaki, a Russian television presenter, was driving an Enzo loaned to him by a friend and registered in Switzerland. He was trying to overtake a car when he lost control and hit the Enzo on the sidewalk. The car then flipped up and hit a tree. Police have checked the accident site for signs of foul play but have ruled it out after checking for chemicals and explosives. Kerimov is currently in a coma. |
Sounds like another rich idiot that thought he could violate the laws of physics, not to mention a great lack of judgement.
As a motorsport reporter I think this behavior is not responsible and I just hope his female passenger is alright. As for him, well I'll keep those comments to myself.
